Has saddle ring and bar which would most likely be associated with a cavalry model but Flayderman notes that some were produced with ring and bar. The one item on this gun that we cannot identify through research is the iron patchbox on right side of stock. Another unusual feature of this rifle that might indicate Army testing is that the barrel is 21 - 1/2" instead of the standard 20 - 3/4" normally associated with the Navy long frame. Otherwise, it is consistent with the long frame Perry carbine of which approximately 250 were manufactured. Normally, Perry guns have mismatched serial numbers, however, this one matches. Stamping on block consistent with Navy model, reading "Perry Patent Arm Co. / Newark NJ / A.D. Perry Patented". Sights are also consistent with a simple wind drift rear and a dovetail front. Single barrel band, walnut stock, ring lever. Unusual rear tube fed priming system is complete and working. Seven groove rifling. CONDITION: Hammer has approximately 60% original high polish blue finish. Barrel is a smooth rich chocolate brown, frame is gunmetal grey with scattered patina. Legends are razor sharp. Wood is excellent. There are no military inspector stamps. Buttplate screw has some original blue. Patchbox is grey brown patina. Rifling is near mint, bright, shiny, and sharp. A far above average Perry with many unusual one of a kind features. A total of 1,500 Perry breechloaders are estimated when including their sporting arms, which comprised a large majority of their production.
