Double fuller blade, maker marked "Tomes, Son & Melvain. / New-York." on left side of blade, just above ricasso. Right side ricasso has tombstone proofmark. Blade is acid etched for approximately 2/3rds of blade with foliate patterns and a large "U.S". on left side, right side has foliate patterns with a stand of arms. Pierced guard with with floral designs. Of interest on this sword is the grip, which is made of silver and retaining only a vestige of silver wire. Iron scabbard with two hangers, decorated with small stars. CONDITION: Sword retains an honest pleasing patina overall, blade was cleaned over light age freckling with some significant pitting towards tip. Grip is good, sans all but the smallest piece of wire, with remnants of what may have been a shell pattern on raised areas. Scabbard attractive with some nicks and areas of use and a deep brown age patina. A pinkie nail sized spot on the drag is somewhat reddish and may be from where verdigris was removed. Drag with door pinches.
