This canteen was sold as part of the Clegg sale on November 23-24, 2007 by Wiederseim Associates, Inc. in Glenmoore, Pennsylvania. It was estimated at $750-1000 and brought $2185. The canteen includes an article on this sale in the February, 2008 edition of Maine Antiques Digest shows a photograph of the canteen and discusses the sale of it. It measures 7-3/8" in diameter and is constructed of wood in the cheese box manner. Held together by two iron bands and three iron loops for sling. Round wooden ring with tapered wooden plaug, attached to canteen by iron chain. Complete with period leather sling. Faces of canteen are convex, front "AK" or "JAK" and the large date "1783" along with an arrow at the N, S, E, and W locations. CONDITION: Retains a dark patina overall. A very nice canteen.
