Blued, etched, and gilt panels extending more than 23" from the ricasso. Amongst the designs on the left side of the blade are an Indian Princess holding a bow with a quiver of arrows across her back; and on the right a beautifully rendered golden American eagle with a riband issuing from his beak "E PLURIBUS UNUM". Blade is marked "WARRANTED" at ricasso. The pommel is a gilt fierce American eagle and the knuckle guard is formed with writhing serpent. Crossguard with leaves, acorns cast and chased in high relief, and a finial ending in an eagle. The leather scabbard with chape engraved with foliage. Middle mount engraved with a gilt eagle. Locket with a wreath. Two carrying rings. CONDITION: Blade is very fine with only minor pitting towards the point and the blued etched and gilt panels retaining much original bright blue finish and nearly all their original gilding. Hilt retains nearly all of its fire gilding. The reeded and fluted bone or ivory grip is cracked through on both sides but not loose, and has one significant 3/4" chip where grip meets pommel. Scabbard mounts retain considerable original bright gilding. The leather, while alligatored and tender, is mostly intact and original. This is a splendid and powerful eagle gilt saber.
