(1908) These well made combination guns are quite popular with American hunters because they are used to a top tang safety. With a typical German (side safety) drilling they have a tendency to select the rifle barrel when firing at a flushing bird. This gun has 30 - 1/8" barrels marked "J. P. SAUER & SON" on top. Full length matted rib is fitted with flip-over rear sight and has crossbolt extension. Barrel flats and rifle barrel are stamped with German nitro proofs and "PRUSSIA". Case hardened sidelock action features non-automatic tang safety, flip-up tang sight, and rifle cocking lever on left side (rifle is filed by rear trigger). There is a pin type rifle cocking indicator at left side of top lever. Action also features crossbolt third fastener, bushed strikers, and raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators. Action and locks are engraved with sprays of scroll within geometric and scroll borders. "Charles Daly" is at the front of each lockplate, and "D. R. P. 78411" is on trigger plate. Serial number is on tang of steel trigger guard. Dense lightly streaked European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/8" over serrated horn buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip. A vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching slim splinter forend has Deeley release. Weight: 7 lbs. 8 oz. CONDITION: Fine. Barrels retain 60-70% of what appears to be original blue, thinning overall, and with some flecking. Action and lockplates retain 60-70% original case hardening color, most loss due to flaking, and some light frosting with subsequent cleaning. Stocks retain nearly all of an old oil refinish over some light scratches and some subsequent scratches and marks. There are 1/2" incipient cracks behind each lockplate. Bores are very good to excellent, right bore shows some frosting (should clean). Rifle bore is excellent. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Mechanically fine. MGM141.
