28" barrels with matted rib are marked with typical L. C. Smith markings on top for "Ideal" grade. Barrel flats are stamped with serial number and grade, barrels with "LONDON STEEL". Case hardened sidelock action with usual rotary bolt features non-automatic safety and double triggers. Action and lockplates are engraved in usual "Ideal" style with about 50% coverage large acanthus scroll within wiggle and line borders. "L. C. SMITH" is on each side. Blued trigger guard has matching engraving on bow and serial number on tang. Lightly figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13 - 3/4" over Hawkins pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend with inlet ebony tip has J-Spring and knurled button release in guitar shaped escutcheon. CONDITION: Excellent, original, as found, retaining over 95% of all original factory finishes on wood and metal. Silvered slightly on sharp edges. Buttstock with craquelure. Checkering shows little wear. Trigger plate screw is a bit buggered, other screws out of time. There is some repair to wood behind right lock, looks factory. There is a crack on forend wood just in front of iron. Bores are excellent. Right ejector "live". This gun is essentially untouched, and could use a good cleaning. A good handling, lightweight L. C. Smith. MGM197.
