Cased .44 caliber pair of Deringer pistols with 4" ovoid shaped barrels, dovetailed German silver front sights and fixed rear sights that are part of the top tangs. Top flats of the barrels have the large left hand marking “DERINGER / PHILADA.” The breech plugs have two silver bands and are engraved with an unusual star & dot pattern on the top flat with a small “P” proof on the left top flat. Lockplates are of the medium size. Lockplates, hammers, and top tangs have the usual Deringer-style engraving. Mounted in one piece walnut stocks with checkered bird head grips and German silver furniture, secured with a sgl key through bow tie escutcheons. Also, most unusually, the barrels are finished brown without the lightning bolt patterns usually found on Deringer pistols. Fitted and housed in a mahogany satin lined and compartmented case. Case is complete with mold, rammer cap tin and medium pistol flask. Deringer pairs are very difficult to find and these guns are a true pair with identical measurements and embellishments. This outstanding set has been very well cared for as their elegant condition demonstrates. CONDITION: Very fine with most all of the lightning bolt pattern remaining on the barrels of both pistols. The checkered walnut stocks are very fine with only the slightest amount of wear from being stored is evident. The bores of both pistols are exceptional. The lock works are in proper working order with no distress or issues. The case is equally fine with the interior having been slightly soiled and faded from time but all partitions are intact and is very fine. Mold is slightly browned. flask is very fine with a pleasant period tarnish. Cap tine retains most of its Jappaned finish and a strong label. Key is present and lock works are in proper functioning order.
