One of the finest sets of Southern Deringers extant. This set, by the renowned Stephen O'Dell, is in its original rosewood case. The pistols with 2-1/4" round barrel with top flat and small brass foresights. Signed on top flat "S. ODELL". Breeches with rudimentary Deringer style engraving. Back action locks with floral engraving. Hammers en suite with locks. Engraved iron trigger guard. German silver pineapple finials retain barrel wedge. German silver sideplate, thumbpiece, and buttcap. Pistols are 7" overall. CONDITION: Barrels retain nearly all of their original brown finish with some minor surface corrosion and are basically pristine and untouched. The locks retain strong traces of their original color case hardening. Hammers with considerable original brown finish. Stocks retain nearly all their original varnish with virtually no wear. German silver furniture is tarnished but has never been cleaned or polished. Actions are excellent. Scratch rifled .42 caliber bores are dirty but probably not from firing. These splendid Southern Deringers are cased in what appears to be their original rosewood case with faded wine red velvet lining, a bullet mold, very rare leather covered plunger type flask, and UMC cap box. Simply stated, this is the finest pair of Southern Deringers we have cataloged and will please the most demanding Confederate or Deringer collector.
