This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2019
Lot consists of (A) Unmarked 1860 Cavalry Officer's Saber, devoid of any markings except for a small "8.6" near pommel of sword and on drag of scabbard. Possibly import or Confederate. Two fuller curved blade. Three branch guard, brass wire wrap over leather grip. Grip is interesting in that it appears to have some kind of twine or thread in between wire, under the wrap. Scabbard with two hangers. CONDITION: Sword is in nice as found condition with a pleasing blend of patina and steel on the scabbard, and a darkening of the brass hilt. Wire wrap is missing two wires near base. Guard has some play to it. Blade is good with some nicks on blade but nothing serious. (B) German World War I Artillery Saber made by Horster and so marked on left side of ricasso. Wide curved single fuller blade. Matching proofs on scabbard throat, sword grip, sword hilt, sword guard, and blade. Spine of blade also has "(Crown) / W / 16" proof. Scabbard with one hanger and drag. CONDITION: Sword retains an even chocolate patina on exposed parts, including scabbard, grip, and hilt. Blade is fine, polished over pitting, with polishing stopping 2" from base of blade. No significant nicks or chips on blade.
