Group identified to Private Jesse A. Atwood Company M 18th Infantry First Division, who enlisted August 3, 1917, was wounded in action July 18, 1918 and was discharged January 9, 1919. Group consists of: Wool tunic with First Division shoulder patch, discharge chevron, two bullion overseas chevrons, one wound chevron and infantry PFC chevron. "US" and 13th Infantry Company M collar disks. Looped through the left shoulder is a wool French Croix de Guerre fourragere. Pinned to the chest is a slot brooch Silver Star machine engraved on the reverse "Jesse A. Atwood", Purple Heart, no brooch, numbered edge, machine engraved on the reverse "Jesse A Atwood", Victory medal with "Montdidier - Noyon" and "Defensive Sector" bars, reribboned French Croix de Guerre, Non-official "Service With The U.S. Army In The Worlds War 1917-1918" medal and Expert Rifleman badge: Campaign hat with blue and red cords, retains it leather sweatband: 1917 dated mess kit with three piece utensil set: 1917 contract dated wool blanket: Wool three-button front shirt: 1922 book "History Of The First Division 1917-1919": Copies of his discharges from the US Army and from the US Marine Corps (1920-1922): 1920 First Division certificate citing Private Atwood for gallantry in action: Wound certificate to "Jesse A. Atwood Pvt. Co M 18th Infantry": Map of the Champagne- Argonne area, laminated: First Division newspaper dated July 26, 1919, laminated. The tunic is in very good condition displaying a few small holes only, the remainder of the material displays moderate wear, most of the paper material shows heavier wear.
