This group belonged to Sergeant First Class Wallace G. Kaiser who served with the 2nd Army Air Section, 16th Balloon Company AEF. Sergeant Kaiser enlisted on December 12, 1917 and was discharged July 9th 1919. He arrived at Brest France, August 6, 1918 and participated in the St. Mihiel offensive, the Battle Of Briex and served with the Army Of Occupation. The group consists of: Wool tunic with balloon patch, above which are stitched the numbers "16", signal corps sergeant chevron, discharge chevron, and two gold overseas chevrons. Two dog tags, one named "Wallace G. Kaiser USA, the second named with the addition "16th Balloon Co." Victory Medal with "St Mihiel" and "Defensive Sector" bars, Sharpshooter Badge, VFW Medal: Campaign hat with Air Service cords, initialed "RG" on sweatband: Copy of the unit history of the Second Army Air Service printed in 1919 with a 1986 inscription presenting the book to the collector: Typed diary signed by Wallace Kaiser and dated 1960: Copy of the book "Military Observation Balloons" printed in 1918: Photo copies of his discharge and enlistment papers, various papers , photographs and caps relating to Kaiser's service and post war VFW activities. Included are an unopened "Durham Smoking Tobacco" pouch and "Beeman's Pepsin Gum" wrapper found in the pockets of the tunic. A very nice group given to the collector by the veteran in the 1980's.
