Designed by Louis Lobdell Hepburn for E. Remington & Sons as a new updated and refined single shot rifle to replace the antiquated Rolling Block. The Hepburn pattern rifles were quickly accepted by sportsmen and target shooters both foreign and domestic. Many elaborate and highly refined target variations of the Hepburn rifle were produced with the options list too long to mention. However one of the rarest and least known and observed variations is the Military Creedmoor model. Also known as the "Any Rifle" as it qualified for the English shooting matches with the simple addition of target sights. This rare deluxe variation is fully published in the unrivaled treatise "Remington's No. 3 Hepburn" by single shot expert and author Tom Rowe. Listed on pages 192 & 193, this rifle is identified as being totally unique and possibly one of a kind. Serial number 3316 has a 34 - 1/2 inch round 3-4 weight barrel with full nickel finish. Fully adjustable front target sight with 5 1/2 inch tall long range tang sight. Checkered full length military pattern stocks are artistically checkered at wrist and in a very unique pattern on forearm. Slide adjustable military pattern rear sight it fitted just forward of chamber. This rifle has further been identified as being believed to be the example pictured in the Norm Flayderman's guide as well as being previously attributed to the Remington Arms museum. CONDITION: Very fine with the rifles nickel finish having attained a wonderful aged coloring and showing no sign or indication of every being polished or buffed. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The two piece American walnut stocks are extremely fine with several minor impressions and minor scratches and a very minor 4mm wood chip missing at left top of tang. The checkering is sharp and fine. The stocks still retain most all of the factory varnish finish with only very minor high point and edge wear being evident. Truly one of the rarest examples of American single shot target rifle we have had the privilege to offer.
