30" broad two stripe Damascus barrels are engraved "COLT'S PT. F.A MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." on concave game rib. Barrel flats are stamped with serial number and bottoms of barrels with "LM". Case hardened top lever action is fitted with front spring locks with chamfered serpentine rebounding hammers. Action and locks are engraved with about 30% coverage sprays of scroll within line and geometric borders. Lockplates are engraved "Colt's PT. F.A. Mfg. Co." Blued trigger guard has scroll on bow and serial number on tang. Smoky marbled European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/4" over checkered hard rubber buttplate with Rampant Colt logo. Point pattern checkering with mullered borders is at grip, and a vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching splinter forend with schnabeled inlet ebony tip has Colt's adaptation of the Deeley release. CONDITION: Excellent, original, as found, with evidence of very little firing. Barrels retain over 80% original brown Damascus finish, thinned on sides from normal hand wear, and with some light scratches, mostly on side of right barrel. Action retains 90-95% original case hardening color, silvered on sides of fences and sharp edges. Locks retain nearly all of their color. Trigger guard retains 60-70% original blue, silvered and flaked. Stocks retain nearly all of their original finish with numerous light marks and dings associated with 100 or more years standing in a closet. Checkering is very lightly worn, and still light in color at grip. Case color on forend latch is almost completely gray. Checkering darkened. Bores are very fine with some light frosting. Action is tight. Locks are crisp. Perhaps as high a condition early Colt shotgun, as one could hope to find. MGM186.
