Made in 1896, this landmark Parker is the very first Vulcan Steel barreled Parker ever made. Made on a 1-1/2 Frame, it is identified by a Parker Gun Collectors Association Letter as being shipped to B.D. Schofield and Company in Fargo, ND on April 2, 1896. The gun was ordered as a 12 gauge, 30" Vulcan barrel, capped pistol grip. The original order specifications called for a length of pull of 14-1/2", drop at comb of 1-1/2" and drop at heel of 2-7/8" with a weight of 7lbs 8oz. Chambered originally at 2-3/4" and full choke. Original cost of this gun was $100. Top rib is marked in hand cut engraving "Parker Bros. Markers Meriden, CT. Vulcan Steel." This exact gun is listed in the "Parkers Found" by the Parker Gun Collectors Association as the earliest known production Steel Barreled Parker! It has double triggers, auto ejectors, and auto-safety. The gun has twin ivory sight beads and is engraved in typical earlier DH pattern with Setter on right, Pointer on left and flying birds on bottom all surrounded by well cut Parker scroll. The unstruck barrel weight is 4lbs 4oz. and Remington repair code "LJ3" (February 1940) noted on barrel flat. The gun was updated and restored during this pitstop at Remington with the addition of ejectors, new forend wood, and a stem to stern factory refinish. This gun was consigned to our firm by the original family and additional ownership history is available to the purchaser. CONDITION: Excellent as factory restored by Remington in 1940. The gun retains about 80%+ of its Remington restored case color. The barrels retain nearly all of the restored blue, with bores showing some light pits towards muzzle ends, more so in right barrel. The Remington made ejector forend is excellent and retains most of its factory finish. The Remington made buttstock retains most of its custom finish subsequent minor hunting bumps and has four 1/4" spacers added at butt from a younger generation who was taller than the previous owner (all of the fascinating and detailed history of ownership of this gun will be provided to the purchaser by our consignor). This is an important Parker and a treasure to a collector who values the evolution of the Parker Gun!
