According to the factory letter, this revolver was part of a 50 gun shipment sent on February 17th, 1881, to J.P. Moore's and Sons, New York. Listed as a standard blue .44. Stocks not listed (standard varnished walnut). Barrel length not listed (Standard 7-1/2"). Barrel and grips were standard fare when this gun was shipped, as was the Colt Frontier Six Shooter acid etched barrel stamp. This early gun features the three line patent and frame, and single line barrel address. You will find full or partial matching numbers on the following: Frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, as well as under the barrel, which is visible when ejector housing is removed. Bottom of barrel is stamped ".44" for caliber. This rare etched panel retains traces of original blue on housing and straps, with generous blue on trigger guard. Case colors and balance of metal have patinaed to a smooth gun metal grey. A couple of the screw heads are marred, while the grips are very good with chipping at bottom and some darkening from being too close to a fire on left side, with chip at left toe. The gun indexes with all four Colt clicks, and locks up correctly. Bore is well defined and clean. A fine, clean, all original example of an 1881 produced etched-panel Colt.
