Offered is a standard .44-40 caliber octagon barrel rifle that was shipped on March 17th, 1897. Features full octagon barrel, full magazine, German nickel sporting front sight, semi-buckhorn rear sight, blued finish, case colored hammer and lever, walnut stocks, and rifle butt. CONDITION: Barrel retains approximately 75% original blue with balance blending to a homogeneous patina with razor sharp legends and edges. Magazine has approximately the same amount of blue with the same blending. 30% original blue on forend cap. 75% bright blue on sides of frame and bolt with balance drifting gun metal grey. Fine screw heads. Traces of case colors on side of hammer and lever. Stocks are excellent, proud to metal with usual minor dings. This early, antique serial range .44 was used but obviously well-cared for. Fine action. Bore is near mint with strong rifling. Far above average .44 caliber 1892, classic octagon rifle in scarce antique serial range.
