One of the hardest to find weapons in the Winchester collecting field are special order carbines. Very few were ordered with any special features. It is extra special when you find on an 1873 in the antique serial range in .44 caliber. Factory letter states this rifle shipped as a .44 caliber carbine with fine front sights, half magazine, and rifle butt. Other features include folding ladder carbine rear sight, saddle ring and stud, walnut stocks, blued finish, and case colored hammer and lever. This button magazine carbine features a single barrel band. CONDITION: Legends are razor sharp. Barrel is a pleasing, homogeneous blend of factory blue mixed with soft patina. Frame retains approximately 80% of the original high polish factory blue finish, softening with patina coming through. Nice traces of color on hammer. Lever has darkened out. Wood is excellent, proud to metal, never sanded, no cracks, with only minor handling marks. This special little carbine still retains the original cleaning rod in butt. An extremely rare and unusually fine condition 1880's special order carbine.
