The massive 13" barrel is chiseled for half of its length with Ottoman crescent and trophies of arms in raised relief at least 1/4" high. Swelled cannon muzzle, silver foresight, some minor gold inlay on tang. The rounded block, chiseled and gilt at tail with chiseled and gilt swan neck cock en suite. Chiseled and gilt frizzen. Elaborately signed Pevret Dumarest. The walnut full stock, extensively inlaid with silver wire and stars, silver mounts, cast and chased in relief, spurred buttcap, cast and chased in relief. 20" overall length. CONDITION: Barrel shows considerable pitting, some serious. Chisel decoration worn. Gilding on lock, hammer, and frizzen good on a punched ground. Walnut full stock heavily worn, split forward of front ramrod pipe. Crack through butt at wrist, has been repaired. Considerable replacement of silver inlay. Silver furniture worn. Ramrod incomplete. Good bore, action is good but a little sticky. Still a very showy and massive French flintlock pistol that at one time must have been a source of pride to an Ottoman officer or wealthy Turkish merchant.
