This well balanced rifle has 24" tapered round barrel fitted with quarter rib holding one standing, two folding leaf U notch sight. Silver bead front with flip-up night bead is in matching sleeved-on front ramp with H&H type folding sight protector. A sling eye is also sleeved-on with rear joint flush with breech end of barrel. An island front scope base is at rear next to action. Magnum length double square action by Reimer Johannsen has rear scope base in raised square bridge in commercial Mauser fashion.makers name and serial number on top of side wall, which has thumb cut. Bolt with engine turned body has classic Mauser pear shaped handle, and is fitted with bolt shroud which has Model 70 type three position safety. Cocking piece is fitted with Rigby type aperture sight. Large drop box bottom metal has heavy hinged floorplate cut to accept large bodied cartridges which is retained by knurled button in trigger guard bow. All metal parts are gold inlaid with 50% coverage nicely detailed eye catching large open scroll. There are splashes of this scroll on front sight base, quarter rib, grip cap, and bolt handle. Engravers signature, "J. Davidson" is inside floorplate. He apprenticed under Ken Hurst. Superbly marbled and figured exhibition quality European walnut stock measures 13-1/2" over skeleton steel buttplate, also gold scroll inlaid. Stock features right hand shadow line cheekpiece, steel grip cap with trap, schnabeled ebony forend tip, vacant gold oval on toe line, small lozenge drop points, and very nicely cut fancy pattern borderless checkering with ribbons and Fleur-de-Lis through pattern. Rifle is accompanied by Zeiss Diavari V 1.5 - 6X scope with three post and crosshair reticle in Recnagle type rings, also inlaid with gold scroll. Weight without scope: 9 lbs 14 oz. Rifle is house in oak and black leather full length case. Lid is lined in white satin. Bottom compartment is lined in burgundy leather and is french fitted for rifle and a number of accessories including a damascus blade Loveless pattern hunting knife with horn handle by Galazan, three horn handled turnscrews, gold plated oil and patch bottle, as well as scope. CONDITION: Excellent, very close to new with only a few minor handling and assembly marks in all factory surfaces, most notably a couple of shallow scratches on right side of butt and some chipping of finish on sharp edges. Bore is excellent. Mechanically excellent. Scope has a repaired scuff in lacquer at rear of tube and a few nicks on objective bell, optically clear. Case is excellent with light soiling and compressions on satin. MGM167.
