Letter indicates this revolver was part of a 50 gun shipment from Colt to one of its major dealers in New York City, the firm of Hartley & Graham. It was shipped on October 25th,1884 and listed as a 7-1/2" blue .45 with rubber grips. The backstrap is engraved by hand "GEMERTS(?) JACK 1885". This fine condition early revolver comes with a plethora of printed information about a doctor in Dodge City and his exploits during this era, but none of the information nor the name has anything to do with the paper. Therefore, we do not see the tie-in associated with this gun, and as such, we are offering simply as a very fine example of an early 1880's civilian Colt revolver. Everything else included with the exception of the factory letter is quite interesting but cannot be any factual attribution, although the carving on backstrap appears to be of the period. We will include all of this paper for your own amusement and possible further research and interesting findings. CONDITION: It remains in fine, untouched condition. One line barrel address with 60-70% original factory blue remaining. It has the three line patent stamp on the left side frame. Matching serial numbers on frame, trigger guard and backstrap. Case colored frame and hammer. Grips are gutta percha with eagles. The cylinder retains approximately 30% original high polish blue with a balanced soft patina. Hammer retains 60% original case colors. The trigger guard and straps retain approximately 30% blue. Grips are near mint and fit precisely. Revolver indexes and locks up like new. The bore exhibits sharp, well defined shiny rifling. CORRECTION: Estimate amended.
