With an extremely limited production of 477 units (Flaydermans Guide) the 1875 Officer's Model is one of the rarest of all US Arsenal manufactured arms. Manufactured for private purchase by US Military Officers these prized rifles saw extensive use and are rarely encountered in their original configuration. Round 26" tapered barrel with folding Beech type front sight and slide adjustable pattern 1879 rear sight. Hickory wiping rod with white metal tip guided by single nickel finished ferrule attached to barrel. Walnut stock is checkered at forearm and wrist with. Scroll engraved pewter forearm tip with military buttplate with out provision for trap. Small circle "P" inspection is evident on bottom of butt beneath checkering. Traditional scroll engraved receiver bridge, tang, and trap breech as well as trigger guard. Trap breech is marked "U.S. Model 1873". Lockplate and hammer are both scroll engraved in the appropriate pattern and plate is marked "U.S. Springfield". Chambered for the US Government .45-70 cartridge. Staff pattern tang sight with 3" staff with friction locking eye cup. CONDITION: Good as found with all metal having attained an even dove-grey to brown patina. Wood is fine with period wear. Stock has numerous minor bruises and blemishes consistent with age. Bore is good with moderate wear and light period corrosion in the grooves. Action operates properly and lock up is solid. A far above average example of one of our US Arsenals' rarest manufactured arms.
