According to the factory letter, this civilian Model 1851 revolver was part of a 150 gun shipment sent June 19th, 1861 to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham of New York as a standard blued, brass, and wood model. This was only two months after the Civil War had erupted. It is a standard revolver in all respects with its octagon barrel, six shot cylinder, Naval battle scene, brass straps, and walnut grips. This is referred to as an early 4th Model with the large brass trigger guard, "36 CAL" stamp not present. New York barrel address. Matching numbers on frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder pin, barrel, wedge, loading lever, and cylinder. "COLTS PATENT" stamped on left side of frame. CONDITION: Cylinder and barrel are a smooth, brown patina with some wiped on finish to even it out. 30% Naval battle scene on cylinder. Sharp legends. Nice screws. Case colors have greyed. Original walnut grips with majority of varnish intact. Indexes and locks up fine. Strong rifling with some black powder abrasion.
