This fine 50's custom has 22" rapid taper lightweight barrel fitted with sleeved on sling eye (consignors notes indicate barrel is by Neidner, and numbered "230" on left side). Model 98 Mauser action by DWM has bolt with damascened body, turndown pear shaped checkered knob, and fitted with FN type shroud. Bottom metal has hinged floorplate secured by button in bow. A commercial trigger with side safety has been fitted. Action is fitted with custom solid scope bases integral with rings. Most metal parts are engraved with splashes and triangles of well cut scrolling acanthus, with considerable coverage either side of sling band and at rear portion of barrel. There are gold line borders to floorplate and trigger guard bow, as well as two gold bands at muzzles. Trigger guard bow is gold inlaid with monogram "CP". Consignor states rifle was commissioned by Chris Pappas and Alvin White was the engraver. Nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut steel trap capped pistol grip stock measures 12-7/8" over checkered steel buttplate with trap. Under buttplate, wood is stamped "T. Shelhamer" and "1150". Stock features classic Shelhamer styling with roll-over shadow line right hand cheekpiece, horn forend tip, chinstrap transition to pistol grip, and very cleanly cut borderless Fleur-de-Lis checkering with ribbons through pattern at grip and around forend (Rex O'dell pattern). Scope bases and rings are also scroll engraved and hold Leupold M8 - 4x scope with duplex reticle. Rifle is fitted with leather basket weave pattern sling and Model 70 Super grade type swivels. Weight with scope: 8 lbs 7 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining nearly all custom finishes on wood and metal, with only a few light handling marks in wood of butt. Bore is excellent. Action is smooth.
