This pre-1964 bench rifle features full heavy round barrel, scope blocks mounted to bridge and barrel, front sight removed, rear sight removed, blued finish, with walnut stock, pistol grip, straight comb, no checkering, sling swivels, and checkered steel shotgun buttplate. Matching serial number is etched on bolt that is finished in the white. CONDITION: Gun is in excellent to near mint condition. Metal retains 99% original finish overall. On the stock is a few minor handling impressions. Strong rifle bore, fine action. This lot also includes: Marine Corps Shooting Core jacket, a college All-American NRA Rifle Team jacket, stamped Lieutenant R. J. Maguire, shooting pads, and marked rifle scabbard, a metal shooting box that includes a Lyman Super Target Spot 20x 3/4" tube scope with adjustable mounts, a tripod, case of nine boxes of .22 Supermatch ammo, spotting scope, and loading tools. This incredible outfit comes with a copy of the "New York Militiaman" from June 1965, showing "Maj. Gen. A.C. O'Hara, Chief of Staff to the Governor (L) presents a Winchester rifle to Capt. Robert J. Maguire 2d Bn 25th Marines, who was number one on the Governor's honor roll for 1965" for attaining the highest aggregate score in six different matches; 1965 list of competitors, witch Maguire listed as "Top Score" May 25th, 1965; and a copy of a letter dated June 4th, 1965, Maguire being congratulated by J.P. Farley, Captain and Chief of Staff. Also included with this lot is the book "Above and Beyond", page 138 to 140 in which Robert J. Maguire has a featured chapter on himself.
