A classic custom rifle from the 50's, this rifle has 21" medium weight sporter barrel fitted with sleeved on sling eye. Caliber and serial number are inlaid in gold on either side of breech end. Standard length commercial Mauser action is marked with proofs, serial number and "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER - OBERNDORF a / n". Receiver ring is stippled and Tilden scope mounts have been fitted. Bolt with engine turned body and extractor has pear shaped bolt knob checkered in five panels on turndown handle. An FN type bolt shroud has been fitted, and a tang safety has been added to top tang. A commercial trigger has been fitted. Original bottom metal with hinged floorplate released by button in bow is very finely engraved with near full coverage very well cut scroll surrounding semi relief vignettes of game; bugling elk in mountainous setting is on center of floorplate, and a portrait of a Big Horn Ram is on trigger guard bow. Signature "ENGR. BY A. GRIEBEL" is in gold in front of floorplate pivot. Classic Shelhamer stock (number 1250 marked under buttplate) is of beautifully marbled French walnut and measures 12-3/4" over broadly checkered and engraved steel buttplate with trap. Trap steel grip cap is also scroll engraved. Stock features Shelhamer style roll-over comb, shadow line right hand cheekpiece, signature chinstrap transition to grip, ebony forend tip, and very nicely cut borderless point pattern checkering with central points as floating diamonds separated by ribbons from main pattern. Tilden rings hold old Redfield 4X scope with fine crosshair and dot reticle. Rifle also comes with a plain brown leather sling with super grade type swivels. Weight with scope: 9 lbs 2 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining nearly all fine original custom finishes, with only some light scratches and marks in wood, mostly on left side of action area. There are few minor marks in finish of scope, which is optically clear. Bore is excellent. Action is smooth. MGM221.
