The brightly blued 9-1/2" barrels with swelled octagonal muzzles, heavily inlaid with gold at the breeches, with the address as shown in title. Muzzles engraved on each barrel flat with sprays of foliage. French grey breeches engraved with foliage en suite, as are barrel tangs. French grey front action locks with border engraving and sprays of foliage en suite. Hammers engraved en suite with locks. Trigger guards with spur engraved en suite with trefoil finial. French grey buttcaps engraved en suite. Figured walnut half stocks fluted at butt and relief carved at forend. CONDITION: Barrels are pristine retaining nearly all their original brilliant blue and bright gold. Rear sights with some original nitre blue, front sights finished in the bright. Locks retain nearly all their French grey finish. Hammers on both pistols have been cleaned and retain no original finish. Buttcaps with some minor staining, easily removed. Stocks retain nearly all their original varnish with few if any minor marks. Deeply rifled bores are brilliant, pristine. Deluxe rosewood casing with brass string borders. Escutcheon engraved "M D P". Accessories comprising rosewood handled ladle, rosewood mallet in remarkable condition without the usual hammer marks. Rosewood barrel form cap box, elaborate rosewood and ivory mounted turnscrew. Diminutive powder flask with oxidation on one side and some original gilding on the other. Original bullet mold, still bright. Both cleaning rod and ramrod present and original. Original oil bottle. Case lining in virtually pristine condition throughout. Only one accessory absent, the brush. Lining is faded but all intact. Pistols measure 16-1/2" overall. A very fine pair of French dueling pistols in remarkable good condition throughout.
