Model 1941 manufactured by L C Smith & Corona. Typewriter has black matte finish with steel keys. "Corona" seen above keys, "Standard" found behind feed roller. The rear is marked "L C Smith & Corona Typwriters Inc/ Made in USA" Serial number "C290968" found underneath the ribbon cover. Complete with leather wrapped carrying case. Accompanying this typewriter is a letter from the heir of H.B. Thurber Estate claiming that this typewriter was given to Thurber from Admiral William Halsey. An excerpt from the letter reads " Adm Halsey told him to take care of it because it was an historical item since it was the actual typewriter used to type the Japanese WWII surrender document.". CONDITION: Black matte paint on typewriter is in excellent condition showing few to any signs of use. Keys show wear on edges. Painted letters are in good condition aside from some wear to the text on the rear of the typewriter. Leather case is in good condition, showing wear all around with small losses around edges and on corners. Areas of rust on metal case components. Overall this makes for a fine example of a WWII L C Smith & Corona typewriter that is attributed to Admiral William H. Halsey.
