Pair of silver-mounted flintlock holster pistols with three-stage barrels signed and the breech and with engraved tangs. Locks signed by John Brazier, London. Water drains around pans. Figured walnut full stocks carved with a shell behind the barrel tangs. Full cast and chased silver mounts including elaborate trophy of arms sideplates and escutcheons. Spurred pommels and turned ramrod-pipes. London silver hallmarks for 1751 and marks of James Brooker, silversmith. CONDITION: Condition of the silver mounts on these pistols is extraordinary, showing very little wear if any and the quality throughout is superb, especially the thumb pieces with well rendered visored closed helmet above and an elaborate trophy of arms, possibly unique to this pair of pistols. The sideplate of superb quality throughout cast and chased with raised relief trophies of arms. Trigger guard with elaborate finial as well. Barrels with some light to moderate pitting throughout. Locks fairly crisp on one pistol. All small parts appear to be original. Second pistol with barrel exhibiting minor to moderate pitting. Locks with some very minor pitting. Hammers and small parts appear to be all original. Figured walnut full stocks in fine condition with very crisp shell carving behind tangs and exhibiting what appears to be a period coat of varnish. Actions on both pistols are crisp. Bores are like new, brilliant. Ivory tipped ramrods with worms appear to be the originals. Pistols display an extraordinary degree of refinement and quality throughout, with the exception of some pitting to steel parts as noted. These pistols are of museum quality.
