These scarce rifles were produced starting around 1960, and only used the small ring FN action for a short time. This rifle has 22" very lightweight barrel not fitted for sights. It is marked with Browning St. Louis and Montreal addresses on left, and with caliber, serial number and "MADE IN BELGIUM" on right. There are 2" triangles of scroll engraving at breech end. Coin finished action with hinged floorplate, gold plated trigger, and engine turned extractor is engraved in near full coverage large flowing acanthus. Game scenes; a running pronghorn on left, and drinking mule deer on right side of receiver ring, are both signed by the engraver. Bottom metal with matching acanthus has engraving of mountain lion on floorplate, also signed by Vandersmissen. Head of Mountain goat on trigger guard bow is neither signed nor initialed. One piece Leupold scope base and rings engraved with large scroll have gold inlaid line borders and hold a 3-9x Browning scope with crosshair reticle. Stock of very fine quilted figure claro walnut measures 13-3/4" over composition Browning buttplate. Stock features Monte Carlo comb with large swept right hand cheekpiece, rosewood grip cap with inlet gold diamond on bottom, rosewood forend tip, and typical Olympian grade closely spaced checkering with scroll carved borders at grip and forend. Rifle comes in full length Hartman case lined in faux fur. Case contains reproduction instruction booklet. Weight: 8 lbs 10 oz with scope. CONDITION: Excellent, with evidence of only very casual field use, retaining nearly all factory finishes on wood and metal. Checkering somewhat darkened. Bore is excellent. Action is smooth. Scope is excellent. Case is excellent. This gun was purchased from noted Browning Collector/Dealer Rod Fuller and was part of his personal collection. A scarce and desirable top of the line Browning.
