A very attractive pair of folding trigger percussion pistols. The 2-1/8" turn off round barrels, fully rifled damascus with microgroove rifling. Frames engraved with shells and borders, inlaid in gold with maker's name "SALLES A MARSAILLES", heightened with silver inlay floral borders. Hammers engraved with lightning bolts. Action tops inlaid with silver flowers and finely engraved. Folding silver buttcaps with Medusa head in relief. The one piece ivory bag butts with molded decoration. CONDITION: Damascus barrels with little or no wear and pitting. Frames are crisp. Inlays excellent. Actions are crisp with triggers popping out properly. Damage to ivory stocks where butt meets the frame, especially on one pistol left side; tight age cracks characteristic of mid-19th century ivory grips, some minor repairs evident, overall would rate good. Bores rate good. Pistols are cased in a most attractive box; lid with pearl and brass inlay, interior with wine red velvet stamped "Verney a Lyon". Keyplate engraved "Diehl rue le Compte". Accessories comprising blued bullet mold, cap box, ivory ramrod, small ivory powder flask probably later. Altogether, a most attractive set.
