William Jover is one of the better London gunmakers, and these pistols, though relatively plain, exhibit the quality for which this famous maker is known. 3-1/2" turn off barrels are deeply rifled with a twist and eight lands and grooves. The top flat of the octagonal barrel is signed "JOVER LONDON". The austere breeches are engraved on the left flat with a vacant oval surrounded by a trophy of arms. The reinforced cocks have simple line engraving en suite with the top jaws. Push-on safeties are engraved. Well formed belt hooks are features on opposite sides of each pistol. Coarsely checkered figured walnut butts. 9-1/2" overall. CONDITION: Pistols retain considerable old period blue finish with some very minor pitting underneath. Belt hooks also have old blue finish with pitting. Hammers are crisp. Actions work well. All small parts appear to be original including top jaw screws and frizzens. Checkered walnut butts are clean with only minor marks. Fair bores with strong rifling. Actions work well. Associated case of bird's eye maple; interior lining red velvet. Accessories include combination barrel key and bullet mold, ramrod, ebony handled turnscrew, small three-way flask in good condition with traces of original gilding. An attractive set of belt pistols by one of Britain's premier makers.
