An attractive pair of small continental flintlock pistols with 3-3/8" barrels of Spanish form with cannon muzzles and gold inlay of flowers at breeches. Unsigned flat bolted locks with simple scroll engravings. Swan neck cocks engraved en suite. Plain frizzens. Steel trigger guards engraved with a spray of foliage. Spurred steel buttcaps with steel pommels engraved with a flower. Figured walnut fullstocks carved with a spray of foliage and relief at breech tang. Full steel sideplate engraved with border. CONDITION: Barrels are good with some gold remaining in inlay. Locks are polished bright. Both hammers appear original, as do all small parts. Frizzens are the original. Furniture polished bright with little staining or pitting. Walnut fullstocks; one with tight crack extending back of muzzle on one pistol, other pistol with repair to right side of forend, both pistols cracked in front of sideplate. Ramrods are replaced. Rifled barrels are dirty and need cleaning. Actions on both pistols are crisp with strong mainspring. Pistols are cased in an associated vertical lid box with Burl wood top. Faded blue velvet lining. Accessories comprise copper flask with Medusa head, turnscrew, ramrod, and cap box. Interesting set of small French pistols.
