For an example of a similar lion head pommel, see plate 139.S on page 108 of "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. The slightly curved blade has a center fuller and above another partial fuller as well as a 10" false edge. The steel eight-slot guard is gadrooned on both sides of the outermost bars. The knucklebow is fluted. The lion head pommel shows great detail, including a pierced mouth, engraved teeth, and a roped ring just above the grip. The ivory spiraling grip is also gadrooned. The sword comes with an associated brass mounted scabbard with dates quite a bit later. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina with some areas darker, edge has a series of nicks, presumably from use. The hilt retains a dark patina and is in excellent condition. Grip has a couple small chips at bottom, on left side, which have been smoothed from use. Scabbard is very good and mounts retain a dark patina. A nice officer's sword.
