Circa 1755, this scarce sword is from the collection of Richard H. Bezdek and it is shown on page 283 of his book "Swords and Sword Makers of England and Scotland". Richard Bezdek was a world renowned author, sword expert and collector who passed away in 2017. A nearly identical example is also shown on page 150 figure 266 S. of George C. Neumann's "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution". The sword has a straight single edged blade with 9-3/4" false edge, a wide shallow fuller, and a deep partial fuller. The semi-basket hilt is of iron and features a dished round guard with triangular knuckle plate and supporting side branches. Ovoid pommel and capstan. Leather wrapped grip with strands of braided brass wire. This sword is complete with its original black leather scabbard with iron mounts. Complete with a signed letter verifying that this sword was from Bezdek's collection. CONDITION: Blade has been cleaned at some time and now retains a grey patina with some darker areas. Hilt retains a heavy brown patina, grip is very good. Scabbard very good with some crazing and losses to finish on leather. A very scarce sword which is even rarer with its original scabbard.
