According to factory letter, this revolver was shipped on May 7th, 1942, exactly five months to the day after Pearl Harbor. Shipped to the Lycorning Division Aeration Corporation in Williamsport, Pennsylvania with a sandblast blue finish, 4" barrel, butt swivel, and smooth walnut grips. The United States ended all civilian gun sales after Pearl Harbor. The Defense Supply Corporation was formed to control commercial sales to defense plants and strategically important production facilities such as Lycorning. There are no military inspector marks since it was intended for civilian use at an important military manufacturing plant. Features the aforementioned finish, six shot, double action, and case colored hammer and trigger. CONDITION: Aside from some light high edge wear on cylinder and muzzle, and a few scattered handling marks, revolver still retains 98%+ original factory finish. Excellent to near mint grips. Fine action. Strong, clean rifling. A fine, standard example of a military style Smith & Wesson issued during war-time to protect vital installations from sabotage or theft.
