The 6" double edged spear point blade, etched on left side with panel and florals reading "Never draw me without reason nor sheath me without honor". Lingard Sheffield maker mark at ricasso. Plain nickel silver guard. Cast cutlery handle with rocailles. Scabbard with gilt stamping, lines, and vines. Nickel silver chape and locket en suite with handle. CONDITION: Blade is superb with brilliant frost etching and much original polish with few minor areas of spider rust. Cutlery handle is crisp, showing little wear and no dents. Scabbard is good with one small break towards chape. The motto on the blade really makes this spectacular little knife. Dates c. 1860's.
