Considered one of the finest battle rifles ever manufactured and these early examples were fit and finished in pre-World War I near commercial rifle quality. This example was made in 1911 and has the "SA" 8-11 barrel date. Every single part of this rifle is correct for that period. Features include the single stock reinforcing bolt, wide finger groove, high hump handguard, straight bolt, finely checkered trapdoor buttplate, smooth trigger, all milled parts, case color safety and selector switch, blue finish, front sight hood, fire blue springs, groove and checkered rear sight dials. The stock has a bold "JFC" inspector stamp in rectangle on left side (James F. Coyle). Cursive proof "P" at wrist. CONDITION: Stock is near mint with near perfect stamps, deep rich color, raised grain and just a few minor handling marks. All metal surfaces retain at least 90% original blue finish with the exception of some drifting and age freckling on floorplate and trigger guard. ME reading: 1. TE reading: 1. This rifle is so nice that it probably spent most of its life in a State Guard Unit storage. Also comes with period correct brass frog sling, a Mills canvas 1907 ammo belt, an "SA 1908" near mint bayonet and sheath along with a P.J. O'Hare rear sight adjusting tool. A great, early, high condition rifle and grouping.
