Spear point blade with most of its original crocus polish, etched "Geo. Wostenholm & Son's Celebrated CALIFORNIA KNIFE" and stamped on the ricasso I*XL, G WOSTENHOLM & SON, WASHINGTON WORKS, NONE ARE GENUINE BUT THOSE MARKED I*XL. Full tang construction, nickel silver reinforced guard with dark horn scales and pearl pommel pieces, escutcheon on obverse. c. 1849-1850s, by perhaps the most famous and prolific maker of English bowie knives for America. CONDITION: The blade shows no signs of sharpening but has a few wrinkles in the edge and has been lightly cleaned in a few areas. The scales have one small crack and show a few small areas of insect damage.
