Fancy English bowie with sweeping clip point blade, stamped LINGARD, FAITH and etched full length with a spread winged eagle and several mottos in ribands: "California Knife", "The Patriot's Self Defender", "America, The Land of Freedom", "Protected by Her Noble and Brave Volunteers". The full tang blade is complimented with ornate stamped nickel silver trim including crossguards, pommels, and a center panel with a spread winged eagle and shield, each separated by mother of pearl inlays. Moroccan leather sheath with nickel silver tip and throat. c. 1849-1850s. Less commonly encountered than the work of other Lingards, Charles Lingard bowies and dirk knives carrying his "Faith" trademark are occasionally found and this is a particularly fine example. CONDITION: Blade appears unsharpened and unused, tarnished somewhat gray but with hints of the original crocus polish. The extreme tip is missing. Handle and trim in superb condition. The original sheath missing the frog stud and with a few dents in tip and throat.
