Big and heavy, the foot-long, 5/32" thick blade of this early Sheffield bowie shows quite a bit of original crocus polish and is decorated with filework on top of and along the sides of the spine, stamped on its face ARKANSAS TOOTH PICK and on the ricasso UNWIN & RODGERS ROYAL CUTLERY SHEFFIELD. Carved rosewood handle with nickel silver shell pommel and decorated guard. Double-gimp escutcheons on each side of handle. No sheath. c.1830s-1840s. CONDITION: The blade with a small amount of sharpening and use, and one small nick, with a few scattered spots and pits but with a lot of original polish visible under the spotting and tarnish.
