Sheffield folding sword-dirk with long spear point blade, double ground on forward end, stamped on tang W (crown) R C. CONGREVE'S PATENT DIRK KNIVES. The knife's "pick-lock" mechanism secures the blade both when closed and when fully open. Stag handle scales secured with birdseye pins, nickel silver guards on both ends, escutcheon on the front side. With moroccan leather sheath to protect protruding blade when closed; the knife is serviceable in the closed position with blade extending 5-1/8". c. 1830s. CONDITION: Blade with sharpening, scattered pitting, has been cleaned. The handle is completely original with one crack, one handle pin has pulled loose.
