Distinctive type of Civil War era eaglehead bowie marked C. ROBY & CO, W CHELMSFOR[D], MASS., the relief ground clip point blade with sharpened false edge and traces of Roby's typical etching. Turned wooden handle with oval iron guard and cast brass eagle head pommel. Accompanied by a very old leather sheath. c.1861-1865. CONDITION: Blade appears rather full but was lightly cleaned a long time ago, obliterating much of the etching. One small nick in blade edge, handle is in excellent condition.
