This is an 1835/40 Model flint musket made by D. Nippes of Mill Creek, Pennsylvania in 1842. At some point, this gun was most likely converted for use with the Maynard tape priming system and then later on reconverted to flint as evidenced by the rather large bushing around the vent hole welded to the barrel. Matching 1842 dates on the lock and barrel. Standard proofs on the barrel. Good cartouches on the left side of the stock. Accompanied by a proper US marked bayonet. CONDITION: Metal has been lightly cleaned with some light pitting. "D. Nippes" marking on lock is obscured by pitting, the "US" underneath it is clear as are the markings at the rear of the lock. Wood is good with use and handling marks, showing some wear. Bore is dirty with some light rust and probable pitting. Lock does not hold at half cock position. GR
