The 34" blade etched and gilt with E Pluribus Unum on right with large spread eagle, large US on left. Ricasso stamped Collins & Co, Hartford, Connecticut, Tiffany and Company in lozenge. The plain brass hilt of typical 1860 cavalry officer style. Grip covered in sharkskin with single braided wire wrap. Brass scabbard with three mounts. Locket mount engraved US with elaborate presentation to Captain McCarty in a reserve. CONDITION: Blade retains some original gilding, stained throughout but with no serious pitting. Sharkskin covered grip in good condition except split along length on underside. Brass hilt retains faint traces of original gilding in protected areas. Sword has never been apart. Brass scabbard with scattered dents and the usual door pinches on drag. Scabbard has never been cleaned and retains a most attractive dark, almost copper, color. A fine Tiffany Civil War presentation saber.
