32" blade finely etched and gilt with trophies of arms and large U.S. in panel by W. Klauberg in Solingen. The hilt, bronze gilt, with pommel inlaid with red stone surrounded by red stones. Eagle in high relief on pommel. Basket is gilt and pierced with acorn, oak leaves, and US, ending in a particularly fierce eagle. Braided copper wire wrap silver grip. Steel scabbard with cast and gilt bronze mounts comprising chape, locket, and hanger. The presentation on the locket in reserve. Chape with Union soldier with rifle and bayonet. Red stone in pommel damaged and missing two small red stone. Scabbard mounts retaining some original gilding. Steel mostly smooth brown metal. Remarkable, sword has none of the usual door pinches and with careful cleaning would be fine to excellent. A most attractive sword with very unusual scabbard mounts.
