The steel hilt of classic Walloon style with thumb ring, D knuckle guard, and large dish shaped guard. Pommel of ball shape. The blade of backsword form with two fullers running it's entire length. Grip wrap of braided brass wire with plain brass Turk's head at top. Wire braided over original wood. Pommel of forged construction with delamination throughout. CONDITION: Condition is good throughout, sword appears never to have been taken apart. Blade is pitted throughout and polished. Condition of guard same as blade. Brass wire appears to be the original. One of the classic military swords used by Continental and Northern European troops throughout the first and second quarter of the 17th century. A good example.
