This Lake George School powder horn was once part of the Richard Headley Collection. This French and Indian War powder horn has engraved designs of the "Lake George School" type, identified by William H. Guthman in his book "Drums A'Beating Trumpets Sounding". The curved measures 13 1/2". Relief ring below spout section, which has on old period repair using string or sinew. The plug is slightly convex and inscribed with a large "M". The horn has its original flange towards the butt for sling swivel attachment. The body is inscribed "LONDON DARY His horn / 1755". Other designs include a colonial gentleman in a tricorn hat and frock coat, an image of an Indian warrior, a leopard, a tall ship, fish, man-in-the-moon, a compass and a deer. CONDITION: Very pleasing honey patina showing some carry wear to engraving and some scattered marks and scratches from use. Period chip to sling flange. A very nice powder horn.
