Lot consists of: (A) High grade presentation M1860 Officer's sword with scabbard. Ricasso is marked on the left side: "THE PETTIBONE BROS. MFG CO. INTI." Sword is engraved in script on the right hand side of the scabbard: "Presented to 2 Lt. Barrett Herrick for services Mexican Expedition 1916 1917 by his family." Pommel and folding guard are adorned with American eagles and "US." Grip is made of silver with extremely fine bullion wire wrap. Guard, pommel and scabbard fittings fancy adorned brass with fine fire gold gilt overall. CONDITION: Sword is excellent overall with blade in original factory bright finish with deep acid etched designs of eagles, floral branches, and American flags on both sides of the blade. No rust or dings are present, and original leather washer is present at base of blade. The only wear is very light vertical rubs from being removed from the scabbard. Scabbard retains 95% of the factory nickel finish with the only dark spot near the engraving near the upper ring. No dents or dings are present. (B) M1872 cavalry officer's saber and scabbard with cavalry worsted wool sword knot. This sword was carried by career cavalry officer, Robert G. Paxton. He led Buffalo Soldiers of the 10th Cavalry in the 1880's, and retired in 1918 as a full Colonel. Maker stamped on the left side of the ricasso: "H.V. ALLIEN & CO." FRANCE. CONDITION: Sword is excellent overall with a factory bright blade with no nicks or dings. Deep acid etched patriotic panels on a frosted backdrop are on both sides of the blade and feature a "US" and American eagle with "E. Pluribus Unum" banner in its beak. Scabbard also rates excellent with 95% factory brushed nickel finish remaining. There is a small dent on both sides about 6" up from the drag. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Wagner cavalry museum collection.
