Lot consists of: (A) U.S. Springfield Model 1880 hunting knife and sheath. Brass guard serial numbered 2515 with brass hook on scabbard stamped "R.I.A" for Rock Island Arsenal. CONDITION: Blade has three nicks on cutting edge with grey finish overall with dark patinated rust near the base. Wood handle is all present with factory varnish and is solid to throat. Scabbard is very nice with solid stitching, finish and riveted brass hanger present. (B) M1873 U.S. Wagner entrenching tool and scabbard. These were developed for use during the Indian wars to give frontier troops a handy tool to dig in to defensive positions on short notice. CONDITION: Overall good with "U.S." stamped located on turned wood handle, blade showing a silver grey overall patina. Russet leather over metal scabbard also marked "U.S". Scabbard stitching is solid with seam brass throat trim intact. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Wagner cavalry museum collection.
