Lot consists of: (A) Officer's private purchase company grade M1872 kepi. Gold bullion thread 7th Cavalry crossed saber insignia is sewn on to wool pillow and separately sewn on. The gold cord bullion chinstrap is held in place with federal regulation "C" cavalry side buttons. CONDITION: Kepi retains intact silk lining with maker mark in gold ink: OAK HALL CLOTHING CO. BOSTON. Russet brown leather sweatband is present and solid as well as the tarred bill. There is no mothing or fading present. (B) Enlisted regulation M1872 kepi. Federal regulation eagle side buttons secure the original chinstrap. Tarred leather bill is solidly attached with edge trim present. CONDITION: Kepi has approximately a dozen scattered moth nips to the wool. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Wagner cavalry museum.
